Kaufman & Robinson (KRI®) is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. We are recognized across the globe for our expertise in ion and plasma source technology. For years, the historical “Kaufman” ion source has enabled vacuum process technologists to extract the advantages of ion beam processing of materials. The adoption of the “Kaufman” ion source in ion beam processing resulted in many commonly understood process benefits such as the densification of thin films, dry plasma etch of patterned wafers, deposition of smooth multilayer film stacks and the modification/activation of surfaces. Since the introduction of the Kaufman ion source, Kaufman & Robinson has produced numerous ion source designs. The innovations incorporated into these products have propelled new performance standards, uptime reliability and unprecedented material processes. These advanced designs encompass both gridded and gridless ion source technology. Rich in scientific talent, KRI® continues to challenge itself to invent the next generation products which elevate the technology to new levels of process tools.
In 2003, Kaufman & Robinson shifted to a new business model. We are no longer inclined to develop products and license design rights to other organizations to manufacture and market. Rather KRI® works closely with our customers to offer modern product designs which satisfy general and specific requirements. KRI® believes that we can invent better products and advance ion beam technology by becoming closer to the marketplace. Now, KRI® retains all new technology designs and manufactures these advanced products themselves. Technically, KRI® is the global leader in broad beam ion source technology. Enthusiastically, we bring our competence directly to the marketplace. By eliminating the licensee, we feel the marketplace will benefit from our intimate contact with customers and applications.
We are a private, employee-owned corporation. We focus our decision making on solid business practices.
